I have to admit, this weekend was kind of nice. Aside from all the craziness happening in the world, it was nice to not have anything officially on the agenda this weekend. All my business travel this past week and over the next few weeks have been cancelled. We literally spent this weekend at home – our family trio. From playing trains/cars with the little guy, to baking no-knead Cinnamon Raisin bread in my Le Creuset dutch oven pot, trying a new recipe out in the crockpot – Chicken Chili, to catching up on shows on Netflix and watching McMillions on HBO On-demand!
Saturday night I felt like making a snack to try. I had a half bag of pretzels left from Orion’s birthday party a few weeks ago, as well as mini pretzel bags that we had leftover for Halloween. I dumped all those in a bowl and tossed it with a melted butter sweet heat sauce, baked in the oven and OMG! Seriously, these are sooo addicting. I first took a small little bowl to snack on and kept refilling. Even the hubby enjoyed too! If you aren’t a fan of heat, feel free to omit the heat spice in recipe. I actually didn’t have any cayenne specifically in my cabinet and used Acme Hot Chicken Spice instead.
If you are looking for a sweet, salty, and spicy treat all wrapped into one – this one is for you!
- 16 oz bag of pretzels
- 1 stick butter
- 1½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. cayenne (increase if you like really spicy, or omit if you do not care for spice)
- ½ cup brown sugar + ¼ cup brown sugar sprinkled on top
- Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Empty bag of pretzel in a large bowl.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Once melted, stir in ½ c. brown sugar, garlic powder, cayenne. Once all combined, pour over pretzels.
- Toss to coat mixture all over pretzels.
- Evenly spread pretzels on baking sheet. Sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup brown sugar.
- Bake in oven for 12 minutes. Stir and toss mixture. Bake an additional 10 minutes.
- Cool for 5 minutes.
- Enjoy pretzels immediately or once fully cooled, store in an airtight container.

Marilyn says
Can I substitute butter for veg oil? I ran out of butter and really wanna make this!
Sara says
I have not made it that way, I think you potentially could but it would definitely alter the flavor. The butter with the pretzel is a great combination!!
